Jesus on the Inside, Makes All the Difference
Meeting a Pashtun with Jesus on the Inside…Wow what a difference in his appearance! I went to the mountain of Ali and met some new brothers who were interested in seeing Easter gifts given out in their neighborhood. One of the men that I had the privilege of meeting was a Pashtun man who became a believer last year. At first I did not recognize him as being a Pashtun man, he had such a different look about him. His eyes were glowing with joy, his face was radiant, he was now expressing his freedom by shaving off his beard. He was very neat in his appearance not because he was trying to impress anyone but because he was filled with hope that inspired him to make the effort to be sharp.
Those who know Pashtun men around here, know they are usually very straight faced, rarely smile, and have a glaring stare that goes right through you. Everything about their appearance and demeanor is usually the antithesis of joy. This brother was quite a contrast; he had a very warm, inviting, and friendly disposition. His smile did not leave his face the entire time we spent together. There was a young man sitting beside him that I did not get to know but he was also likely Pashtun. A friend has told me that this brother leads a prayer and Bible study time in his living quarters. I look forward to meeting with him again in the near future to hear his story of how he came to follow Jesus. What a joy it will be, to be gathered around the throne some day with men like this and we will say together with the angels “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Rev 5:12
